About Us
In the year 1985, Tirupur Dyers Association was formed and subsequently the name was changed as Dyers Association of Tirupur. Dyers Association of Tirupur Represents 700 Dyeing & Bleaching units functioning in Tirupur in the state of Tamilnadu, DAT was formed under the Leadership of Chairman Khandasamy & & Mr. Palanisamy. There are around 700 members in the association, whose support cooperation, commitment refers to the successful functioning of the organization.
Formation of Common Effulent Treatment Plant (CETP)
Due to growth of knitwear exports, number of small dye houses and bleaching units increated to 752.Further on , noyyal river and water bodies across tirupur got polluted by the effluents discharged by the dyeing units. So in order to protect the environment , 288 dyeing and bleaching units formed eight CETP's initially in the year 1998. Further on , 464 dyeing and bleaching units formned independent ETP's (IETP's).Subsequently 12 more CETP's were formed in the year 2006. Central and State Governments sanctioned financial assistance for establishing the CETP's
Establishment
The ZLD achievement is an unique feature in Textile wastewater treatment, not implemented anywhere in the world. We at Tirupur have ventured in this bold step to do away with the nagging environmental issues once in for all even though the capital and O&M cost are prohibitably high
The operating Cost of the CETPs after implementation of the ZLDS will be very high which has to inevitably incurred and absorbed for the cause of environment by the CETPs/units
The implementation of the ZLDS by the CETPs cannot be completed in time without the receipt of grant earlier.
Our Objectives
Due to increased discharge of dyeing effluent into river Noyyal, ground water in and around Tirupur and nearby areas of Orathupalayam Dam was affected severely. Hon’ble High Court of Madras ordered closure of all dyeing units on with the direction to State Pollution Control Board for allowing them to reopen after implementation of Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system for effluent treatment. With the financial support of Central and State Governments, ZLD system was implemented in 18 CETPs.
Unique ZLD system in textiles sector standing first in the Globe implemented in all CETPs. 10 Cr litre of water recycled daily preserving natural precious water. River Noyyal and other water bodies protected from pollution. Agricultural activities are revived and saved from pollution. Depletion of underground water level prevented.
Establishment of CETP is helping business activities of dyeing units – Small and Medium Enterprises(SMEs). Investment in land for establishing CETP individually is saved. Operational cost is minimized. Cost of water used for treatment of effluent to the tune of Rs.300 Cr is saved per year. Energy and manpower are saved. Eco friendly production methods are helping the export community to get Green Tag Label for their products. Growth of illegal dyers is prevented.
